Filing by the Petition Method
(Candidates who meet the petition requirements are not required to pay the qualifying fee)
a) A candidate must file the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (DS-DE9) before he or she may begin collecting petition signatures.
b) All registered voters are eligible to sign petition cards,
c) All voters’ signatures on petition cards will be verified with the voters’ signature on file in the Supervisor of Election office.
d) Each Candidate shall pay to the Supervisor of Elections in advance the sum of 10 cents ($0.10) for each petition card submitted for verification unless the candidate files an Undue Burden oath. It is suggested that each candidate submit 125-130 petition cards for signature verification.
e) Candidates must use the petition format prescribed by the Division of Elections (DS-DE 104) Candidates are responsible for reproducing the petition form for circulation. This format cannot be changed in any fashion and cannot be numbered on the face of the petition. Any changes to the format will invalidate the petition. Enlarging or shrinking the form does not change the format.
f) If running for an office that requires a group or district designation, the petition must indicate the group or district number. If the group or district number is not indicated, the petition signatures will not be valid.
g) Petitions must be signed by 1% of the registered voters in the geographical area of candidacy.
h) Petitions must be submitted before noon of the 28th day proceeding the first day of the qualifying period for the office sought. The Supervisor of Elections shall determine if the required number of signatures has been obtained and shall notify the candidate. If the required number of signatures has been obtained the candidate may qualify by the petition process.

14-day period begins for qualifying officers to accept qualifying papers for statewide, multi-county, county, and special district candidates to be processed and filed during the qualifying period.

**Qualifying amounts are calculated by multiplying the salary as of July 1, 2023 of each office by 6% for partisan candidates and 4% for nonpartisan candidates. (F.S. 99.092)
